The Artist

Mahum is a British-Pakistani artist with roots in Peshawar, Pakistan. Born in Ireland and raised in Yorkshire, England, she now lives in London with her husband Shahab and daughter Maya. Alongside her career as a doctor, Mahum continues to pursue her lifelong passion for art—creating vibrant, soulful pieces that resonate with audiences around the world.

Her artistic journey began early, nurtured by her art teacher Gareth Hughes, whose encouragement and guidance helped her achieve national awards and recognition. A memorable highlight was when her artwork was exhibited at her MBBS graduation ceremony, a true merging of her two worlds, medicine and art.

Mahum’s portfolio spans portraiture, Arabic calligraphy, and abstract symbolism. Her early works often explored facial expression and celebrated women she admired, most notably a two-metre portrait of her mother, later featured by the Saatchi Gallery. Over time, her practice has evolved, and she now creates pieces that use abstraction and symbolism to evoke deep emotion and reflection.

Her work has been collected globally, finding homes across continents and enriching the spaces they inhabit. Inspired by the belief that our surroundings profoundly shape our minds, Mahum seeks to create art that is not only visually captivating but also thought-provoking and emotionally moving.
